Good numbers for Espinosa, Revere and Rendon

Shortstop Danny Espinosa's home run in the fifth inning was the 19th of his career while hitting right-handed.

Even Espinosa didn't now if he had gotten all of the Jaime Garcia offering.

"I wasn't sure. Kind of low and hooking a little bit, so really hoping for a double right there," Espinosa said.

Later, Espinosa almost was able to hit a ball the opposite way. The potential double was caught in left field.

"I feel good. I feel like I'm making good contact, and if I can keep doing that, it'll eventually fall and turn my way," Espinosa continued. "Just stick with my approach and stick with my plan and my work every day. Hopefully, I'll come out on top."

Two of his last four hits in the past seven games have been home runs. The last time he hit homers in consecutive games was August 14-15, 2015.

Center fielder Ben Revere has hit .393 (11-for-28) since May 19, with one double, one triple, one homer, five RBIs, one walk, two stolen bases and five runs in eight games.

Revere said the Nationals almost got the offense going in Friday's 6-2 loss.

"Today I think we were close to 10 hits," Revere said. "Everyone was just smoking the ball. That's baseball. That's how baseball does it. The Cardinals played great defense. Especially some of (Ryan Zimmerman's) balls, (Jayson) Werth and then of course Espi in the ninth.

"It's just one of those games where you hit the ball on the button and can't make up for it. Then they hit a home run with guys on base. That's how they won. That's just part of the game. Just put it behind you and get ready for the next game the next day."

Third baseman Anthony Rendon is hitting .373 (22-for-59) since May 10. During that span, he has six doubles, one triple, one homer, nine RBIs, 12 walks and nine runs scored. He has a .479 on-base percentage during that run.
