SARASOTA, Fla. - Orioles reliever Kevin Gregg hasn't pitched since last Sunday's B game, when he threw one inning and gave up a home run, but he'll take the mound Saturday against the Red Sox in Sarasota.
The Orioles have split-squad games that day, but he'll avoid the trip to Fort Myers.
Gregg insists that he's fine physically, though he's only appeared in two Grapefruit League games. He threw in the bullpen yesterday while the Orioles traveled to Lakeland.
"I'm getting off the mound, just like everybody else," he said. "You look at other guys in our bullpen. I wouldn't say (Matt) Lindstrom has pitched a whole lot more than I have, or (Luis) Ayala. Obviously, J.J. (Jim Johnson) is a little bit behind.
"I think it's all been basically about the same for everybody. A lot of guys in camp, a lot of arms and a limited number of innings."
Lindstrom was shut down with lower back discomfort, but he's resumed throwing.
Gregg was listed as one of the pitchers for Wednesday's game, but he didn't make an appearance, which raised suspicions among some members of the media. Afterward, manager Buck Showalter said Gregg wasn't having a health issue, but he wouldn't elaborate on why the right-hander hadn't been used in a while.
Gregg said he was erroneously listed as one of the pitchers for Wednesday.
For the Twins:
Denard Span CF
Tsuyoshi Nishioka SS
Danny Valencia 3B
Chris Parmelee 1B
Ryan Doumit DH
Rene Tosoni RF
Luke Hughes 2B
Rene Rivera C
Ben Revere LF
Nick Blackburn RHP
No matter how hard the Twins try to mess with me, I will not confuse Rivera with Revere. But I'm not sure that I can make the same promise with Rene and Rene. And there's a good chance I'll refer to Tsuyoshi Nishioka as "Wada" at least once.
