In Bowie, Guerrero and Izturis both say they are ready to return to the Orioles

BOWIE, Md. - Both Vlad Guerrero and Cesar Izturis got four at-bats with one hit each and left the game in the seventh inning tonight at Double-A Bowie. Both later said they felt good and they are hoping the Orioles decide to activate them in time to play Tuesday at Toronto. Izturis had several duties here tonight: player, postgame interview subject, then interpreter for Guerrero's interview. "(Guerrero) feels great," Izturis said in the Baysox clubhouse during the eighth inning of the game. "Like he had the last 10 days without one at-bat. Yesterday (in batting practice), he felt good and today he felt good. "He was coming here to just have four at-bats. He thinks he will join the team in Toronto, that was the plan." When asked if Guerrero has been told that he will definitely be activated Tuesday, Izturis said, "Not yet, but he hit yesterday and felt good. He thinks he's ready." Guerrero has been out since July 11 with a fractured right wrist. He lined a single to left in the first and scored on Joe Mahoney's three-run double. He lined out to right in the second, grounded out in the fifth and flied to left in the seventh. This was his first minor league game since he played for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of the California League on May 22 and 23 of 2009. As for his own play and how he felt, Izturis was upbeat about that in the clubhouse. "I felt good, my body felt good," he said. "I feel much better than yesterday. Felt good to get that double. A good group of players here, some good talent." How was his timing at the plate? "It was better, better than yesterday, " Izturis said. "Hopefully, tomorrow (is) better than today. Saw a changeup and breaking balls, so today was a good day. "My arm feels good, my legs feel fine. I think I'm ready." Is he heading to Toronto tomorrow with the Orioles? "Don't know yet, got to check in with the boss. Whatever they say," Izturis added. Izturis, batting second and playing shortstop, grounded out in the first and second innings. He doubled and scored in the fifth and grounded out out in the sixth. Izturis, who made a throwing error in the third, was replaced by Pedro Florimon to start the seventh inning. Izturis last played for the Orioles on May 12 and shortly after that had surgery on his right elbow to repair a ulnar nerve inury. He said his elbow is now fine and his throwing has returned to 100 percent. He was batting .192 in 16 Orioles' games earlier in the year. Trenton won the game 6-4 to snap Bowie's four-game win streak. Mahoney and Xavier Avery each had three hits and Ronnie Welty went 2-for-4. Oliver Drake took the loss, giving up five runs over six innings. Zach Britton pitches Monday night when Bowie hosts Harrisburg and Bryce Harper.
