It wasn't all bad Monday at Fenway

It won't take all the sting out of blowing a 6-0 lead and losing the game in the last of the ninth, but two things continued to go well for the Orioles last night at Boston. They got another good starting pitching outing and the resurgence of the offense continued with seven runs and 10 hits. Of course, the Orioles could have scored more, especially early in the game. They went 2-for-9 with runners in scoring positon over the first three innings when they left six runners on base. Still, nine different Orioles either scored a run, drove one in or did both. Over the last seven games, the Orioles' team batting average is .301 and they have 80 hits. They have 20 extra-base hits and six double-digit hit games in that stretch. The Orioles have 36 hits and have scored 22 runs the past three games with nine doubles and five homers. Vladimir Guerrero had another game with two doubles. Over his last three games, he is 7-for-14 with five doubles. He had just four doubles over his first 35 games. Mark Reynolds homered for the second time in three games and has now driven in a run in three straight games for the first time on the season. Brian Roberts has pulled out of his slump and is batting .292 over his last five games. Matt Wieters is batting .400 at 12-for-30 during a seven-game batting streak with five RBIs. Adam Jones is batting .414 over his last seven games and has 18 RBIs over his past 26 games. The Orioles stole four bases in the loss and Jason Varitek has now thrown out just 3 of 24 trying to steal. The Red Sox have now allowed 52 stolen bases, by far the most in the American League. As for the starting pitching, Chris Tillman's five shutout innings lowered the ERA for the starters to 1.47 over the past seven games. It's a stretch where the O's starters have allowed two earned runs or less in six of those games. Maybe some of these stats will lessen the blow of a blown lead and blown game at Fenway Park. Then again, they may not.
