Jakubauskas falters in fifth (game tied in sixth)

Chris Jakubauskas shut out the Reds through four innings, no small feat considering they began the night having scored the third-most runs in the majors with 364. Their .261 average ranked seventh. Jakubauskas issued a two-out walk to leadoff hitter Chris Heisey in the fifth, moving former Orioles catcher Ramon Hernandez to second base. You could guess what would happen next. Brandon Phillips followed with a two-run double, and he scored on Joey Votto's double. Orioles 4, Reds 3. Scott Rolen almost blooped an RBI single into right field, but second baseman Blake Davis made a nice running catch to end the inning. Jakubauskas has thrown 76 pitches in five innings. Jason Berken began to warm in the bullpen after Votto's double. Berken hasn't allowed a run in four appearances covering five innings since being recalled. Update: Berken gave up the tying run in the sixth on Paul Janish's two-out single. Of course it came with two outs. Don't they all? Down on the farm, Single-A Frederick shortstop Manny Machado has not hit a home run tonight. I repeat, he has not hit a home run. He's 0-for-1 with a walk. Update II: Machado is 1-for-2 with a walk.
