Jays hit pair of two-run homers to top Orioles 4-2

This time, there was no arguing among players or anything close to a benches-clearing incident. The Orioles and Blue Jays played without the emotional outbursts we saw last night.

But there was still plenty of frustration for the Orioles, who could not take advantage of a wild starting pitcher and lost again to Toronto, this time by a 4-2 score at Rogers Centre.

The Orioles are 1-4 against Toronto this year and fall to 7-8 for the season with their first three-game losing streak.

The game started well for the Orioles. Jimmy Paredes hit an opposite field homer to left-center in the third for a 2-0 lead. He hit a 1-0 fastball off right-hander Aaron Sanchez to break the 0-0 tie.

But a pair of two-run homers by Toronto got the Blue Jays even and moved them ahead. After Ubaldo Jimenez walked Edwin Encarnacion to start the fourth, Justin Smoak homered to left-center for a 2-2 tie.

An inning later, Jose Reyes came up with a leadoff single and scored on a Devin Travis two-run blast to center. Travis' fourth homer came on a 1-1 split-finger fastball. The rookie Travis went 3-for-4, and is batting .388.

That was the Blue Jays' fifth homer of this series and eighth in their first 39 innings off O's pitching this year. Toronto has now homered 12 times the last five games.

This game marked more mental mistakes that hurt the Orioles, including two costly miscues on the bases. Paredes was doubled off second base on an Adam Jones liner with one out in the first. Later, with Chris Davis up and Alejandro De Aza on second in the seventh, De Aza was caught stealing at third to end the inning.

The Orioles also left the bases loaded in the sixth when Ryan Flaherty popped out and Caleb Joseph struck out against 20-year-old right-hander Roberto Osuna. The game ended with the O's missing another chance. Manny Machado doubled and Flaherty walked to lead off the ninth. But Joseph struck out and pinch-hitter Delmon Young bounced into a double play to end it.

The Orioles went 2-for-10 tonight batting with runners in scoring position, and are just 3-for-26 (.115) with RISP the past three games.

Jimenez took the loss ,and is now 1-1 with a 2.30 ERA. He was scored on for the first time this year and went five innings tonight, allowing six hits and four runs with three walks and six strikeouts. He threw 102 pitches, and is now 0-2 with a 8.16 ERA in four career starts at Rogers Centre.

O's starters have failed to pitch past 5 1/3 innings for six straight games. Over the last three losses, the starters have allowed 18 runs over 12 innings.

Winning pitcher Sanchez survived despite walking seven Orioles in 5 1/3 innings. But he gave up just two hits and the two runs to get his first win of the year.

In the series and road trip finale on Thursday night, Chris Tillman (2-1, 5.52 ERA) faces right-hander Drew Hutchison (1-0, 7.20 ERA).
