Jimenez takes loss against former teammates as Cleveland rolls 9-0

Ubaldo Jimenez faced his former Cleveland Indians teammates today. This one did not go as planned. The Indians scored five in the fifth and four runs in the seventh today to beat the Orioles 9-0 in front of 36,873 at Camden Yards. The Orioles fall to 24-23 with their ninth loss in the last 13 games. They are 6-13 against American League Central teams and this was their most lopsided loss of the season. Jimenez battled his control from the start today, walking three of the first eight batters. He walked two more to help fuel Cleveland's five-run top of the fifth. Jimenez failed to get an out that inning and T.J. McFarland replaced him. The inning featured the two walks, a hit batter with the bases loaded by McFarland, four singles and an error by second baseman Jonathan Schoop. In his first three May starts, Jimenez gave up just one run over 19 2/3 innings. But he has given up 10 runs in nine innings over his past two starts. This was his shortest start of the season as he went four innings plus five batters, giving up the five runs. He issued five walks to tie a season high and threw 99 pitches. Jimenez is now 2-6 with an ERA of 4.98 through 10 starts. Meanwhile, Corey Kluber was having his way with an O's lineup that had scored 38 runs the last five games. Over seven scoreless innings, he gave up five hits with two walks and nine strikeouts. Kluber is now 5-3 with an ERA of 3.10. The Orioles were shut out for the fourth time this season. They needed to score six or more today to tie the team record for scoring six runs or more in six straight games. In the final of this four-game series on Sunday afternoon, Miguel Gonzalez (2-3, 4.53 ERA) faces right-hander Trevor Bauer (1-1, 2.25 ERA).
