Jimenez on today's outing, poor start plus Davis and Wieters quotes

In a very quiet Orioles clubhouse Ubaldo Jimenez talked about his third straight poor start for his new team. "Tough one, really bad one," Jimenez said. "Couldn't be there for the team once again. I've been missing right down the middle of the plate. I've been making too many mistakes right down the middle. That is something I have to work on. Executing the pitches. If I want to go away, make it be there, instead of right down the middle of the plate." Jimenez gave up 10 hits and five runs over 5 2/3 innings and took the loss as Toronto hammered the Orioles 11-3 with a 17-hit attack. Jimenez wants to show his new fans and team what he can do, but so far it's been just struggles. He is 0-3 with an ERA of 7.31 and has given up 23 hits in 16 innings, including four homers. "I mean, as a player, you want to win and be there for the team," Jimenez said. "I know it's part of the game. I can't give up, not going to put my head down and feel sorry for myself. I have to keep working hard and find a way to be there. "Pretty much it's the same, I've been making mistakes down the middle and have not executed the pitches like I wanted to. Today my breaking ball was better but I kept making mistakes with the fastball." Jimenez has had slow starts before, but that doesn't make this one feel any better. He came into this outing with a career 5.10 April ERA, his worst of any month, over 29 starts. "Yes, I've always been like that. I don't want to have it like that. I always try to find a way to get it going right away. But it seems like it takes me a little longer," he said. I asked catcher Matt Wieters if the issue is with the quality or the command of Jimenez's pitches "It's always going to be command and location," Wieters said. "Ubaldo, he's got great stuff. He's going to have it go up and down a bit but if the location is there, he'll have success. We're both getting to learn each other. We'll keep working and improve next time we go out there." Chris Davis was asked about the Orioles' 5-7 start. "I just think it's a combination of things," Davis said. "Think as an offense we definitely want to score more runs early in the game. (Mark) Buehrle used our aggressiveness against us today and it kind of got away from us." Davis did hit his first homer in the last of the eighth today. "Feels good. Feel like I've been swinging better lately," Davis said. "Timing starting to come around a little bit. We've been hitting some balls hard, up and down the lineup, that we haven't had a lot to show for it." The Orioles are now 1-3 in series on the year and 4-5 against AL East opponents. "It's disappointing," Davis said. "We've got our work cut out for us. It's important when you play in the division. "We have to relax and know we have a full season in front of us. You can't win the World Series in one game. Try to look at the positive side of things. Having good at-bats, playing some good defense. Our pitching will come around and our bats will get hot."
