Jones, Machado extend hitting streaks to seven games (Hardy homers)

Orioles center fielder Adam Jones continues to love life on the West Coast, producing an RBI single in the first inning tonight in San Francisco. Jones extended his hitting streak to seven games with a two-out single up the middle that scored Manny Machado. He's 13-for-25 with three doubles, a home run, six RBIs and six runs scored. Jones had a nine-game hitting streak on April 20-28. Tonight's RBI is his 80th this season. Machado doubled with one out, his 41st this season. He's also hit in seven straight games, going 10-for-26 with two doubles, a home run, four RBIs and six runs. Machado scored the game's first run on the one-year anniversary of his arrival in the majors. The Orioles are 41-20 when they score first. Nick Markakis grounded out in the first. He doesn't have an extra-base hit since July 19, a span of 18 games, including tonight. He has one since July 7, a span of 26 games. His last home run came on June 24 against the Indians. Before tonight's game, manager Buck Showalter told reporters that Jason Hammel received a cortisone injection in his right forearm. Hammel is eligible to come off the disabled list on Tuesday, but that's not going to happen. The Orioles still have five starters after trading for Bud Norris, and the five off-days this month ease the burden of losing Hammel. Down on the farm, left-hander Zach Britton allowed two runs and two hits in five innings in Triple-A Norfolk's 11-2 win over Rochester. However, he walked six batters to go with his six strikeouts. Britton threw 95 pitches, 50 for strikes. Update: J.J. Hardy extended the lead to 2-0 in the second inning with a solo homer off Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong. Hardy is the third Orioles shortstop with three consecutive 20-plus homer seasons, joining Miguel Tejada (2004-06) and Cal Ripken Jr. (10 straight from 1982-91). The Orioles are 52-37 when they homer.
