According to Jim Callis of Baseball America, in a tweet tonight, Orioles third-round pick, UCLA pitcher Dan Klein, got a signing bonus of $499,900. That is more than most of the players taken late in the second round received.
According to BA, it is the third highest bonus the O's have handed out so far. Fifth-round pick Conner Narron got $650,000 according to the publication and ninth-round pick, pitcher Parker Bridwell got $625,000.
Narron played his first pro game this afternoon in the Gulf Coast League. He went 0 for 3 with three strikeouts and also made a throwing error.
As of tonight, we have not heard of any further word on O's signings. They had four unsigned players among their top 15 picks beginning today, including Manny Machado, the first rounder.
Joe Jordan told us that he remains confident the O's will get Machado, while Callis told us earlier this week he is 99.9 percent certain the O's will sign Machado.
Klein, who went 6-1, 1.90 with ten saves this year, is expected to join the Aberdeen IronBirds.
By the way, Josh Bell drew his first walk as an Oriole tonight. It came in the sixth tonight at Tampa. It came in his third plate appearance of the game and after 57 O's at bats.
