Latest on DL Hall's debut

As the Orioles continue to talk about finding another starter to upgrade their rotation, they've got a schedule set up for left-hander DL Hall to begin his professional career.

Hall can't provide immediate assistance to the Orioles, but he has to start somewhere. It's happening, as expected, in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League.

Hall will make his debut on Aug. 4 at noon against the GCL Rays at the Ed Smith Stadium complex in Sarasota.

The 21st overall pick this year out of Valdosta (Ga.) High School, Hall has been throwing bullpen sessions in Sarasota while awaiting his assignment.

Baseball America listed Hall as the No. 3 prospect in the Orioles system in its midseason rankings, behind catcher Chance Sisco and outfielder Austin Hays.

Ryan Mountcastle, Tanner Scott, Hunter Harvey, Jomar Reyes, Cedric Mullins, Keegan Akin and Cody Sedlock rounded out the top 10.

The Orioles gave Hall a $3 million bonus, slightly more than the slot amount of $2,892,400 for the 21st selection. He became their first high school pitcher selected in the first round since Harvey in 2013 and their highest prep left-hander since Adam Loewen in 2002.

Rule 5 outfielder Anthony Santander doubled twice, drove in two runs and scored twice last night in his first two at-bats with Double-A Bowie before the game was suspended due to rain. Santander started in right field.

Infielder Ryan Flaherty, also on an injury rehab assignment with the Baysox, was 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.

Hays hit his ninth home run in 29 games with Bowie.
