Yes, it's a very small sample size, but so far the Orioles have better numbers batting against left-handed pitching. They are facing right-hander Vance Worley of the Twins tonight. While the Orioles' team average is .348 with a slugging percentage of .717 against southpaws, it's not like the numbers are bad against the righties at .307 and .436. Chris Davis and Adam Jones are batting a combined .667 (14-for-21) versus right-handers through four games. Davis is a ridiculous 7-for-8 with three doubles, two homers and nine RBIs. Jones is 7-for-13 with two RBIs. Jones has three three-hit games already and over his past two games, he is 6-for-10 with a double, two RBIs and five runs scored. He has scored eight runs already. The Orioles have scored 29 runs so far, in order scoring seven, seven, six and nine runs. They lead the AL in average (.320), slugging (.524) and OPS (.900). They are second to Boston's .397 in on-base percentage at .377. In the first four games, the Orioles' team ERA is 4.89 to rank 13th in the AL and they'll need to move up those ranks, of course. On the plus side of that, the staff issues just six walks in 35 innings. The Orioles have a 2-1 lead in the third tonight as Jones came up with a swinging bunt RBI infield single in the first and a throwing error by Worley scored a second run. Chris Tillman walked two and gave up a run in the second, but fanned Aaron Hicks as Minnesota left the bases loaded as he minimized the damage in that threat. Update: Kevin Gausman allowed six runs tonight through four innings and is trailing 6-1 for Double-A Bowie at Harrisburg. He gave up a two-run homer to Steven Souza in the second. Tim Bascom replaced him to begin the last of the fifth. His line tonight: 4 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 8 K and one home run. Meanwhile at Norfolk tonight, Jair Jurrjens pitched six scoreless innings of one-hit ball in Game 1 of a doubleheader with two walks and seven strikeouts. He threw 95 pitches, 56 strikes and one reader wrote in with a report that he was working in the low 90s with his velocity and touched 95 mph on the stadium gun at Harbor Park. Back in Baltimore, Chris Tillman has been relieved and T.J. McFarland is making his major league debut in the top of the fifth with Minnesota leading 5-3. Update 2: Tillman's line tonight was 3 2/3 IP, 7 hits, 5 R/ER, 4 BB, 4 K and 93 pitches. That makes the O's starting pitching ERA 5.74 in one turn through the rotation with two quality starts.
