So much for that infield hit stat (Jones single ties game)

The Orioles and Blue Jays were the only American League teams without an infield hit before tonight. Now the Jays stand alone. Adam Jones took a full swing in the bottom of the first inning and sent a slow roller up the third base line with runners on second and third and only one out. Manny Machado raced home, and Nick Marakis followed him when Twins starter Vance Worley fielded the ball and fired it past first baseman Justin Morneau. Credit Jones with an RBI, his fifth this season, and Worley with an error - and a serious lapse in judgment. Maybe Worley should have walked Jones with first base open and pitched to Chris Davis. Kidding. Davis struck out looking and clearly didn't agree with the call. He also couldn't have appreciated plate umpire Tom Hallion's theatrics. I swear, this guy is going to moon walk or do the worm after punching out a hitter. I keep waiting for it. Jones is 11-for-20 this season. Davis is garnering most of the attention, and rightfully so, but Jones has been impressive. Chris Tillman retired the side in order in the top of the first, striking out Joe Mauer and Josh Willingham on 94 mph fastballs, but he gave up a single and double to open the top of the second and fell into immediate trouble. Trevor Plouffe also struck out on a 94 mph fastball, but Chris Parmelee walked to load the bases. Brian Dozier flied to center field, and the Twins were on the board. Orioles 2, Twins 1. Tillman walked No. 9 hitter Pedro Florimon, a former Orioles farmhand, bringing pitching coach Rick Adair to the mound. He responded by striking out Aaron Hicks on a curveball, his 40th pitch of the night. Down on the farm, Steve Souza hit a two-run homer off Double-A Bowie's Kevin Gausman to give Harrisburg a 2-0 lead. Update: It's not a good night for Tillman. The Twins scored four runs in the third inning, the last two on Parmelee's home run to right field. Twins 5, Orioles 2. Tillman fell behind 3-0, threw his cutter and watched it sail over the fence. Ryan Doumit had a run-scoring single earlier in the inning and Plouffe lifted a sacrifice fly, with Jones making a nice running catch in left-center field. Doumit appeared to be tagged out while trying to get back to first base after his single, but umpire Ron Kulpa didn't see it that way. Tillman has allowed five runs and five hits in three innings, with three walks and four strikeouts. He's thrown 74 pitches, 43 for strikes. Down on the farm, Jair Jurrjens allowed one hit in six scoreless innings for Triple-A Norfolk in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Durham. He walked two, struck out seven and threw 95 pitches, including 56 for strikes. Update II: No home run for Davis tonight, but he blooped an RBI single into center field with two outs in the third to score Manny Machado and reduce the Twins' lead to 5-3. Davis has RBIs in all five games and 17 for the season. Update III: Tillman is charged with five runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings, with four walks, four strikeouts and one home run. He threw 93 pitches, 55 for strikes. Rule 5 pick T.J. McFarland made his major league debut as Tillman's replacement and retired Justin Morneau on a fly ball to right field on his first pitch. Tillman struck out two Twins in a 13-pitch first inning, and it was pretty much downhill after that, with the right-hander unable to command his pitches. He hadn't faced major league hitters - with the exception of Nick Markakis in the State College of Florida game - since March 3. Update IV: The Orioles have tied the game and taken Tillman off the hook. Jones singled up the middle with the bases loaded to score two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Orioles 5, Twins 5. The Orioles had four straight singles to opening inning - Nate McLouth, Machado, Markakis and Jones. Machado is 2-for-2 with a walk tonight. Markakis is 3-for-3. Jones is 12-for-22 this season. McFarland has retired four of the five batters he's faced. Parmelee singled with two outs in the fifth after Plouffe struck out.
