Machado homers for fourth straight game as O's top New York 4-3

Manny Machado homered for the fourth game in a row and the Orioles pushed across a run against Dellin Betances in the last of the eighth tonight to beat New York 4-3 at a chilly Camden Yards.

The Orioles swept the day-night doubleheader, won their fourth in a row and improved to 80-81. A win in Sunday's season finale would give them a .500 record, and they would avoid their first losing season since going 69-93 in 2011.

In a 3-3 tie, Paul Janish led off the eighth with a bloop single off Betances, who began the night with a 1.41 ERA. He moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on Gerardo Parra's bunt single. With Machado batting, Janish scored on another wild pitch for the 4-3 lead.

Zach Britton pitched the ninth to record his 36th save in 40 chances. T.J. McFarland got the win in relief with two perfect innings in the seventh and eighth.

Earlier, Machado hit his 35th homer of the year in the third inning. It was his fifth homer in four games, and he has homered in all four. In that stretch, Machado is 7-for-17 with five homers, seven runs and eight RBIs.

According to ESPN Stats and Info via Twitter, there are two players with 35 homers and 20 stolen bases in their age 22-or-younger season: Alex Rodriguez in 1998 and Machado.

Nolan Reimold hit orange.jpgThe Orioles took a 2-0 lead in the first. Nolan Reimold hit his first career leadoff homer and the Orioles' sixth of the season. It was his 50th career homer. Later in the frame, Steve Pearce's doubled plated the second run.

After New York cut it to 2-1 in the second, Machado's homer made it 3-1. He hit No. 35 on an 0-2 pitch, which was a 96 mph fastball from New York starter Luis Severino. New York tied it 3-3 in the fifth on Slate Heathcott's RBI double and a bases-loaded walk to Carlos Beltran. Jimenez hit a batter and walked one in that inning, but got Brian McCann to fly out with the bases loaded to hold the 3-3 tie.

After Jimenez hit Jacoby Ellsbury in the fifth - his second hit batter of the night - Severino threw a pitch near Janish's head and both benches were warned.

Jimenez got a no-decision. Over six innings, he gave up five hits and three runs. His final season ERA is 4.11, and his ERA over his last six starts is 3.19. Severino also did not get a decision, allowing five hits and three runs over seven innings and 91 pitches.

In the final game of the season Sunday at 3:05 p.m., Chris Tillman (10-11, 5.05 ERA) pitches for the Orioles against right-hander Michael Pineda (12-9, 4.24 ERA).
