Neither Andy MacPhail or Dave Trembley have yet to confirm that Brian Matusz will be the Orioles' starting pitcher Tuesday at Detroit, but all signs point to that happening.
Here are some quotes from MacPhail on this situaiton from today's Orioles Insider Roundtable Show heard on the O's Baltimore flagship station, 105.7 FM, the Fan.
"Matusz is probably the most prepared of all minors leaguers (for a callup). That is the way we are likely to go. This is not necessarily through the rest of the year.
"We are being pretty aggressive pushing him here. This is not my first choice, probably not my second choice. But in the situation we are in and he is already on the 40-man roster.
"It looks like he is in our plans for 2010 anyway. It was pretty unanimous among some of our minor league people. The most reluctant to make the move is probably me. I talked to Peter Angelos about it.
"We could always send Matusz back to the minors if we wanted to when Bergesen comes back."
MacPhail said he sought several opinions on Matusz including those of minor league pitching coordinater Dave Schmidt, special assistant Wayne Krivsky and director of player development, David Stockstill.
