Manny Machado's walk-off HR gives O's win over Oakland

The Orioles lost leads of 6-1 and 7-5, but they didn't lose this game. In fact, they won it in walk-off fashion, but it took awhile.

After Oakland tied the game in the ninth off Zach Britton, the Orioles won it in the 12^th inning when Manny Machado led off with a homer to left-center that just made it into the stands. That gave the Orioles an 8-7 win as they improved to 10-2 in extra innings.

Machado hit No. 28 on a 1-1 slider from Simon Castro. He has seven homers and 18 RBIs over his last 11 games.

An ongoing American League record ended in the top of the ninth when Britton suffered his first blown save since Sept. 20, 2015. It ended his league record run of consecutive saves at 60 in a row.

Pinch hitter Jed Lowrie led the ninth with a single and went to third on Boog Powell's double. Marcus Semien's RBI single cut Oakland's deficit to 7-6, and when Matt Joyce hit a deep sac fly to center tied it to 7-7 ending Britton's streak.

Miguel Castro came on after Britton and got the win, pitching 3 2/3 scoreless inning allowing two hits with three strikeouts. He threw 50 pitches and only Darren O'Day was left in the bullpen at that point.

The Orioles have their first series win since they swept three from Kansas City July 31-Aug. 2. They ended a 3-3 homestand and improved to 62-65 overall and to 38-26 at home. After Thursday's off day they play a weekend series in Boston.

The Orioles broke a 0-0 tie in the fourth when Jonathan Schoop and Adam Jones both singled with one out. Then Trey Mancini bashed a first-pitch, three-run homer to center for the 3-0 lead. Mancini hit No. 22 on a 93 mph Daniel Gossett fastball. With two outs, a walk, single and Ryan Flaherty's RBI single the O's led 4-0.

With his 22nd homer, Mancini tied Curt Blefary, Sam Bowens and Ron Hansen for third-most rookie homers by an Oriole. Cal Ripken Jr. hit the most with 28 in 1982 and Eddie Murray hit 27 in 1977. Mancini began this series in a 2-for-26 slump his previous seven games.

Meanwhile Orioles right-hander Dylan Bundy took a shutout into the sixth. But with two outs, Boog Powell singled off the glove of third baseman Manny Machado. Marcus Semien followed with an RBI double to cut the lead to 4-1.

But the O's went up 6-1 in the sixth when catcher Welington Castillo blasted a two-run homer left-center. It was his 14th of the year and he hit an 0-2 fastball 419 feet.

Bundy needed just 67 pitches to get through those first five innings and he fanned seven in that span. After allowing a run in the sixth, he gave up three straight hits to start the seventh and manager Buck Showalter lifted him for right-hander Mychal Givens. The A's scored twice to pull within 6-3 with both runs charged to Bundy.

He went six innings-plus and gave up seven hits and three runs with no walks and eight strikeouts. Bundy got a season-high 19 swings and misses on 91 pitches with 10 coming on 29 sliders. Pitching on 10 days rest, Bundy recorded his 17th quality start. Over his past four outings, he is 3-0 with a 2.67 ERA.

But Oakland rallied from being down 6-1 to pull within 6-5. The got those two runs in the seventh and then Matt Joyce hit a two-run homer off Givens in the eighth. The Orioles used three pitchers to get through that inning with Brad Brach getting a strikeout of Bruce Maxwell with two on to hold the one-run lead. When Chris Davis hit a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth, the Orioles had a 7-5 lead that Britton could not hold in the ninth.
