Markakis drops to fourth in All-Star voting (with more notes)

If you're still holding a grudge over Jose Bautista's antics after his home run off Orioles reliever Darren O'Day in Toronto, you won't feel any better about him after Major League Baseball announced the latest American League voting results for the 84th All-Star Game. Bautista, a three-time All-Star and fan-elected starter in each of the last two seasons, has totaled 2,679,230 votes to pull in front of Markakis (2,536,864) Also, the Angels' Mike Trout has passed Adam Jones as the leader among AL outfielders. Trout is first with 4,822,983 votes, followed by Jones with 4,766,256. First baseman Chris Davis has received the second-most votes in the A.L. with 5,468,703, trailing Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera (5,844,165). Manny Machado ranks second among A.L. third basemen with 2,752,627 votes. J.J. Hardy continues to lead A.L. shortstops with 3,509,180 votes, followed by the Tigers' Jhonny Peralta (2,505,348). Hardy, Davis and Jones are looking to become the third trio of Orioles in franchise history to earn starting assignments together. They would join Boog Powell and Hall of Famers Brooks Robinson and Frank Robinson in 1971, and Brady Anderson and Hall of Famers Cal Ripken and Roberto Alomar in 1997. Catcher Matt Wieters (2,677,959) continues to trail the Twins' Joe Mauer (3,869,330). Nate McLouth ranks seventh among outfielders after moving up to sixth last week. Bowie pitcher Eddie Gamboa was named the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week after tossing a seven-inning no-hitter yesterday. Gamboa is the first Baysox pitcher to win the award since Jake Pettit on Aug. 19, 2012.
