Coming off one of the worst starts of his career, Miguel Gonzalez looks to rebound from that outing tonight in the opener of an eight-game homestand, when he faces the Chicago White Sox at Camden Yards.
Gonzalez gave up six hits and seven runs in four-plus innings last Friday at New York. He sailed through the first three innings on just 30 pitches.
In six games in August, Gonzalez went 0-2 with a 5.25 ERA. He has an ERA of 5.77 since the All-Star break.
Lefty Jose Quintana pitches for Chicago tonight. He is 7-5 with a 3.69 ERA in 28 starts with a .248 batting average against. His last start was interrupted by a long rain delay and he went just one inning Monday at New York.
In two career starts vs. the Orioles, Quintana is 0-1 with a 4.22 ERA, but on July 4 he pitched seven shutout innings of two-hit ball with a career-high 11 strikeouts against Baltimore.
Quintana leads the majors with 16 no decisions this year, which is a Chicago club record. He didn't get a decision in that July 4 game against the Orioles.
Some other O's and Sox notes:
* The White Sox have lost six straight games after winning 10 of their previous 12. Chicago has lost 14 of its last 23 games at Camden Yards. Chicago is 0-6 on their current 10-game road trip after getting swept at both Boston and New York.
* The Orioles trail in the season series, 1-2 with Chicago. The Birds won the season series, six wins to two last year and are 8-5 vs. Chicago since Aug. 10, 2011.
* Adam Jones is one RBI shy of 100. When he gets there he and Chris Davis will be the first pair of O's teammates with 100 RBIs in the same season since Aubrey Huff and Melvin Mora in 2008.
* The Orioles have lost three series in a row, four of their last five and five of the last seven.
* Nick Markakis, who is not starting tonight, is 2-for-20 over his last five games and batting .185 (10-for-54) over his last 14 games. He has just three extra-base hits his last 41 games and one homer in his last 61 games.
