Minor league notes on Widlansky and Britton

It appears that Robbie Widlansky of the Double-A Bowie Baysox will be out for the rest of this season. He suffered what is believed to be a fractured right ankle on Thursday during a game at Erie and is expected to miss at least six weeks, meaning the soonest he would be back is at the very end of the minor league season. Widlansky, who won the Carolina League batting title last year while at Frederick, is batting .269-5-30 in 74 games with the Baysox. He was just two for 21 in July at the time of the injury, but hit .324-3-14 in 26 games in June. Meanwhile, Norfolk Tides lefty Zach Britton is on the Team USA roster for today's Futures Game at Anaheim. It starts at 6 pm Eastern Time and will be televised live on ESPN2. Britton, who was named baseball's tenth best prospect this week in Baseball America's mid-season report, is 0-1, 2.53 in two Triple-A starts after going 7-3, 2.48 with Bowie. The World Team has won the last three Futures Games since Team USA won in Pittsburgh in 2006. Over 80 percent of the players that have been on Futures Game rosters in the previous 11 games have made the Major Leagues. Meanwhile, the injury bug that has hit the organization this year in the Major and minor leagues has now impacted a minor league manager. Bowie's Brad Komminsk suffered a broken right arm and his days throwing batting practice are over for awhile although he continues to manage the Baysox.
