Minor league notes on Wilson, Givens, Aberdeen's improved offense and more

When Triple-A Norfolk beat Durham 7-4 last night, Tides right-hander Tyler Wilson made his second start with the team and picked up his first Triple-A win. Wilson gave up four runs over seven innings. He is 1-0 with a 3.46 ERA in two starts with the Tides after going 10-5 with a 3.72 ERA for Double-A Bowie. The win was the 11th for Wilson between Bowie and Norfolk, most among Orioles minor leaguers. His 98 strikeouts rank second on the O's farm. He also became the third different Tides pitcher to earn his first Triple-A victory this season, joining Suk-min Yoon and Mike Wright. Evan Meek followed Wilson's outing with a scoreless inning of relief, giving him 12 consecutive scoreless appearances with the Tides. Over that span, Meek has allowed seven hits, zero walks and 13 strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings. Steve Clevenger added two sacrifice flies, giving him 24 RBIs over his last 32 games with the Tides. Double-A Bowie was shut out 7-0 at Harrisburg last night. It was just the second time all year the Baysox were blanked as they fall to 48-43. Reliever Mychal Givens pitched two scoreless innings. In five games since moving up from Single-A Frederick, the 24-year-old right-hander has a 1.23 ERA with Bowie. Over 7 1/3 innings, he's allowed three hits and one run with seven walks and nine strikeouts. Givens, who converted from shortstop to the mound last year, is the O's No. 23-ranked prospect according to Baseball America. Mike Yastrzemski had another big hit for Frederick last night. His single in the 10th inning gave the Keys a 7-6 win at Salem. Frederick has won four in a row to tie a season-high. Jason Esposito went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and Michael Burgess drove in two runs. Single-A Delmarva produced a walk-off 3-2 win over West Virginia last night. Austin Wynn's high chopper to the mound ended the game when the Power tried to get Creede Simpson at the plate, but the throw was late. The Shorebirds are 48-41. Chance Sisco went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to nine games. In 67 games thos season, Sisco, the Orioles' No. 10 prospect, is batting .345 to lead the South Atlantic League. In 32 games since June 1, he is batting .395. The short-season Single-A IronBirds have begun to turn it around after a terrible start. Aberdeen scored just 31 runs total during a 1-16 start to its season. Now the IronBirds are 5-3 over their last eight games and have scored 46 runs in that time. Aberdeen won 9-2 at Staten Island last night to conclude a 4-2 road trip. Jay Gonzalez had four of Aberdeen's 14 hits. Left-hander Brian Gonzalez, the Orioles' top pick this year, made his second pro appearance yesterday. He pitched two scoreless innings in the Gulf Coast League, allowing one hit with no walks and two strikeouts. That is three scoreless innings in two games for the Orioles' third-round selection.
