ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Orioles manager Buck Showalter confirmed that Ubaldo Jimenez will start Monday night against the Nationals in D.C. Chris Tillman will pitch Tuesday, and Wednesday's starter is listed as TBD.

Tyler Wilson's turn falls on that day. However, Showalter didn't rule out Mike Wright returning to the rotation.

It's a fluid situation.

Miguel Gonzalez will throw from 120 feet on Friday and could rejoin the rotation next weekend in Boston. Showalter pretty much ruled out Gonzalez starting in D.C.

Tillman starts tonight against the Rays, followed by Wilson on Friday, Wei-Yin Chen on Saturday and Kevin Gausman on Sunday. Chen was supposed to start Friday until the Orioles slotted Wilson into the rotation and bumped Jimenez to next week.

"We're going to just match up where we are," Showalter said. "Tyler's going to pitch until Miguel gets back. Miguel's progressing well. He gets through the work day, then we can get to a sim game. If he doesn't have any setbacks, he could start twice potentially. That's the best-case scenario.We're hoping that happens and kind of move some things around. It's something we've been thinking about for a couple of days and we wanted to see how we got through last night first.

"We knew Tyler was going to pitch at some point and it kind of fits for everybody as we go forward for the rest of the schedule and the rest of the year. The wild card is what Miguel is able to do for us."

Wright is headed to the bullpen, but for how long remains a mystery.

"He's still in the mix both ways," Showalter said. "We're going to serve the needs of the club each day and what gives us the best chance to win that day. He threw 59, 60 pitches last night, so Mike is still an option for us both ways. We'll take each day as it comes.

"I've still got a couple guys in the bullpen today that I need to stay away from, so we're going to have to make sure we keep all our bases covered."

Showalter wants Gonzalez in Boston, where the right-hander is 4-0 with a 2.83 ERA in seven games (five starts). Gonzalez is 6-1 with a 3.27 ERA in 12 games (10 starts) against the Red Sox.

Asked if he could go to a six-man rotation that includes Gonzalez and Wilson, Showalter replied, "It could be seven. We're going to match up. We're not going to let anybody sit around too long. We're going to match up our guys with the teams we're playing and take each night and try to win each game.

"Looking at Washington's lineup and the way they've been doing things and looking at the teams we're playing behind them, we're just trying to get ahead of some things and making sure everybody's got proper rest and matches up. We've got it mapped out through the rest of the season, but something could change. The unknown is where Tyler and Gonzo and Mike fit."

Inserting Gonzalez could allow Showalter to keep Tillman and Chen away from the Blue Jays. Tillman is 0-4 with a 15.50 ERA in five starts against them this season.

Meanwhile, Wilson gets another shot to impress.

"He's a baseball player who happens to be a pitcher," Showalter said. "He's athletic, he can repeat his delivery, makes up for maybe not being able to light up a radar gun with command and knowledge of pitching and repeating his delivery. He's very professional. He's had quite a history of knowing how to win baseball games, and that always plays.

"We wanted to take everything in from our three-game series (against the Red Sox) and see where our bullpen fell and see if we had to pitch a lot out of there and making sure we had all our bases covered. Wanted to see how Zach (Britton) and Darren (O'Day) and Brad (Brach) felt today and make sure we present our best chance to win each game. We'll see where we are tomorrow."

Showalter said the decision to start Wilson isn't tied exclusively to Wright's struggles over his last seven outings.

"It's somewhat, but there are a lot of other factors involved, where certain guys fall as we go forward, too," Showalter said. "You can look at it and probably figure it out.

"We got through beating New York two out of three in their place and they're operating on all cylinders, or trying to. We were able to beat on paper one of, if not the best teams in the American League in Kansas City two out of three and we beat a team that was playing their best baseball of the year two out of three. (But) that may not be good enough. We've got to try to do everything possible to win each game and see where we are and also present ourselves each day with the best possible matchups."
