Nationals' power display answers many questions

Saturday's thrilling 7-6 comeback victory over the Indians reveals a lot about what this 2013 version of the Nationals are capable of. Ryan Zimmerman, Jayson Werth, Ian Desmond, Chad Tracy and Anthony Rendon all hit homers. All of them solo shots. That power is both a strength and a weakness. There have not been enough two-run or three-run homers this season as compared to last season. But it cannot be underreported that this team crushed five home runs Saturday. The three shots by Zimmerman, Werth and Desmond helped the Nationals race out to a 5-0 lead. Cleveland responded with a stunning comeback, culminating in a Michael Brantley two-run double that gave the Tribe a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Then, Tracy slammed a dramatic pinch -hit home run with two outs in the eighth inning to tie the game at 6-6. In the ninth, as if writing a storybook ending, rookie Rendon crushed his first major league home run and the Nationals led, 7-6. Incredible stuff. The Nationals have 10 hits in the series. Five of those are home runs. A day after his first game off, Rendon was the hero with a homer to give the Nationals the lead for good. Rendon went 3-for-5 with a double, homer, two runs and a RBI. He is now batting .333 The Nats pretty much have to keep the kid in the lineup. Yes, Rendon is the 2013 "kid" that Bryce Harper was in 2012. He should go nowhere the rest of the season. Rendon is a baseball player that can hit.
