Nats game blog: Is this second-to-last appearance for Zimmermann at Nats Park?

The Nationals showed some fire and emotion Friday night in a 5-4, 10-inning comeback win over the Marlins. Jose Lobaton had a sac fly to score Jayson Werth, who had a bloodied forehead and bloody right knee as he met with the media after the game.

Washington looks to go up 2-1 in the series with right-hander Jordan Zimmermann getting the nod today.

"They enjoy playing the game," said manager Matt Williams. "And regardless of when it is or what game it is, Game 1 or today, they have great desire to win and compete. Good hustle, good energy and going out there with exuberance and a willingness to win."

What is significant in today's start for Zimmermann is not only the need to win the game, but also that this could be his second-to-last regular season start at home. The pitcher has spent his entire career in a Nationals uniform.

Zimmermann pitched very well to end last season with the no-hitter and then eight-plus innings against the Giants in the divisional series. With free agency looming for him, will he figure out a new deal with the Nationals or move on? If it is the latter, then today and next Friday will be the last two opportunities to watch Zimmermann pitch for the Nationals at home. That is tough to think about.

The Nationals are in the midst of a season-long 11-game homestand and are 1-1.
