Norris start in jeopardy, and other notes

Orioles right-hander Bud Norris is sick again and may not be able to make Saturday night's start against the Angels.

Norris turned in back-to-back quality starts before becoming ill on Saturday and lasting only 3 1/3 innings the following day at Yankee Stadium.

Ubaldo Jimenez would take Norris' turn while working on regular rest following yesterday's off day, and Chris Tillman would be bumped up to Sunday.

Norris played golf yesterday in "The Battle of the Birds" - the Orioles improved their record to 3-0 against the Ravens - and was dining with his agent when he became sick again. He may be running a fever.

Norris is being examined at the ballpark while the Orioles are on the field, a precaution in case he's contagious.

Catcher Matt Wieters took batting practice today and "turned it loose," according to manager Buck Showalter, after playing 8 1/2 innings yesterday at extended spring training. He's expected to join the Orioles next weekend in Miami and could go on an injury rehab assignment after working out.

The Orioles may not wait for Wieters to catch in back-to-back games before starting his rehab assignment. He could get behind the plate in consecutive games after he reports to an affiliate.

Jonathan Schoop will begin baseball activities on Saturday in Sarasota and also could join the Orioles in Miami, though he may not be ready for a rehab assignment.

Everth Cabrera is leading off and playing second base tonight for Triple-A Norfolk. He might stay in the game for nine innings.

Cabrera could come off the disabled list while the Orioles are playing the Marlins.

Rule 5 pick Jason Garcia, on the disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis, has reported to Sarasota to begin rehabbing.
