SARASOTA, Fla. - It's been a noteworthy day in Orioles camp.
Left-hander Brian Matusz suffered an allergic reaction to peanuts Sunday night and may not pitch today. He's scheduled to follow starter Miguel Gonzalez.
Matusz went to the emergency room and had a second reaction.
My guess is he pitches today. From what I've been told, he's fine and expects to take the mound against the Red Sox.
Update: Matusz says he can pitch today. He said he was tired yesterday, but is fine today.
Assistant athletic trainer Brian Ebel explained outfielder Francisco Peguero's injury as a right wrist strain, which surfaced three or four days ago during batting practice on the back fields. Peguero is day to day.
Aren't we all?
Peguero was examined by Sarasota-based hand specialist Dr. Brian Schofield.
Adam Jones is taking batting practice this morning. He has a 2 p.m. flight out of Sarasota and will attend the birth of his first child Wednesday in Baltimore.
Nolan Reimold is being sent to minor league camp tomorrow to get extra at-bats. He will serve as the designated hitter and lead off every inning.
Manager Buck Showalter noted that Reimold had his most impressive at-bats of the spring yesterday in Bradenton, where he singled, walked and scored twice in a 7-6 win over the Pirates.
Xavier Paul was hit on the right hand during that game, but X-rays were negative and he's available to play today.
The Orioles will make more cuts today.
