FORT MYERS, Fla. - Manager Buck Showalter has made out his lineup for Wednesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays, and it includes Nolan Reimold in left field.
Reimold is throwing to the bases today in a drill back in Sarasota. If his right shoulder is fine, he will finally get a start in left.
Adam Jones, back from the World Baseball Classic, is listed as the center fielder. Showalter indicated that Jones instead could be used as the designated hitter, but it's more likely that he's on the field.
Brian Roberts made his first road trip today, and he's also slated to play in the next two games - the first time that he's gone back-to-back-to-back this spring.
"He knows these last two weeks are going to be a pretty good test for him," Showalter said. "So far, he feels good. None of us do all the things we did 10 years ago, but he's also had some experience at some things. He's swinging the bat well, he's running well. He's got a lot of things behind him that were a challenge. I think he's in a good mental state of mind.
"He will be as good as he's capable of being. I know that."
Roberts dived into second base on a steal during Friday's game, then was called out on his next attempt while sliding feet-first into the bag.
"He said he hadn't tried that in a while and he wanted to try both of them," Showalter said. "He said he won't be going feet-first anymore. He said it felt really strange."
Jonathan Schoop will return to camp Wednesday after the Netherlands was eliminated from the World Baseball Classic. The Orioles tentatively plan to make him the regular shortstop at Triple-A Norfolk, with the ability to move around at times. Discussions continue.
"You could project him at any of those three infield positions," Showalter said. "Brian (Graham) thinks he turns the double play as well, if not better, than anybody we've got. He's got plenty of arm strength to play third base. He's more of an arm strength double play guy. He turns it with such arm strength. And I think his bat is going to play. He's still a growing boy."
Schoop will take a few days off before playing again.
Tsuyoshi Wada threw another bullpen session today in Sarasota. He continues to make impressive progress.
The Orioles will have a meeting Thursday morning to discuss the next round of cuts.
