Notes on roster move, Urrutia, Wieters, Roe, Pearce and more

With today's roster move, the Orioles have designated outfielders David Lough, Alejandro De Aza, Delmon Young and Travis Snider since opening day.

Nine players are off the roster since the opener, and reliever Ryan Webb represents a 10th if you consider that he was included on it until being designated for assignment to make room for catcher Ryan Lavarnway.

As I wrote in my last entry, Lough would have to accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk if he clears waivers. The Orioles want to keep him in the organization.

Outfielder Henry Urrutia is on the taxi squad today and will take batting practice in the last group. He will be recalled on Saturday.

The corresponding roster move won't involve catcher Matt Wieters. His hamstring is much better and he won't go on the disabled list.

Wieters said he's available tonight if needed.

Chaz Roe's right shoulder is feeling better after he received a cortisone injection early this week.

Steve Pearce took live batting practice yesterday as part of his progression from an oblique injury, and he could begin an injury rehab assignment early next week.

Chris Tillman remains the scheduled starter for Monday after being hit on his right triceps during his last outing in Seattle.

Hunter Harvey continues to throw on flat ground, and the Orioles want him to pitch in the instructional or fall league. He's on the minor league disabled list with a strained right flexor mass.

Dylan Bundy (shoulder) will visit Dr. James Andrews for a check-up at the end of the month.

Manager Buck Showalter confirmed that Chris Parmelee is done for the season after breaking his left arm Wednesday. Parmelee was hit by a Matt Moore pitch in Durham.

Showalter was in Double-A Bowie last night to check on some players. He's impressed by first baseman Trey Mancini, who figures to be named the organization's minor league Player of the Year.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin told reporters that Sonny Gray won't start again before Monday. He could miss the Orioles series.
