O's bats again come up empty in the Bronx

Maybe the only thing more frustrating than watching the Orioles lose to the Yankees is how they do it. Get runners on second and second third for the top of the order. Three straight strikeouts on pitches out of the zone vs. Burnett. Yankee liner to center and Adam Jones makes a foolish dive and it costs them a run. Matusz almost gets out of a major jam, but issues a bases-loaded walk. The Orioles have scored just two runs in this series. Sabathia entered last night's game with an ERA of 3.12 and Burnett entered tonight at 2.43. That's pretty good, but someone got runs off them. Maybe the now 20 games this club has played this year vs. the AL East is taking a toll. Maybe they are just outclassed by the Yankees. They will try to avoid a three-game sweep on Wednesday. A few more notes from tonight's game: The Orioles are now 1-4, with four losses in a row vs. New York, scoring five runs in those four games. In the last three losses vs. NY, they have scored 0, 1 and 1 run. O's team batting this year vs. NY: *In five games this year: 33 for 159 (.208) with 10 runs. *In the last three games vs. NY: 15 for 93 (.161) with two runs. CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett have made four starts this year vs. the Orioles and are 4-0, 1.45 in those games. Garrett Atkins went 3 for 4 tonight with a double and is 5 for 7 in this series and is 7 for 15 over his last four games. Miguel Tejada went 2 for 4 and is 9 for 19 during a five-game batting streak. Over his last 12 games, Tejada is batting .426 (20 for 47) with eight multi-hit games. The O's fall to 7-20 on the year and are 6-14 vs. the AL East. They are 3-12 on the road and now 1-17 when scoring fewer than four runs. Wednesday at 1:05, David Hernandez (0-3, 4.55) faces Andy Pettitte (3-0, 2.12). Hernandez is 0-2, 5.51 this year in three road games and is 0-0, 4.91 in two career starts vs. New York. Pettitte, off to the fourth 3-0 start of his career, has his lowest ERA ever after his first five starts of any season. He is 26-6, 3.60 in 38 career starts vs. the Orioles.
