O's can't get the clutch hit in series finale, fall 4-2

The Orioles struggled again batting with runners in scoring position as they lost 4-2 to the Chicago White Sox and came up a win short in their attempt to sweep the four-game series today. The Orioles went 0-for-11 this afternoon with runners in scoring position, and finished this four-game series going 3-for-37 (.081) with RISP. They did hit eight homers - all solo shots - in the four games. The Orioles went 2-for-29 (.069) with RISP the last two days. The O's, down 4-1, rallied in the ninth and scored once, but the game end when pinch-runner Chris Dickerson apparently lost track of the outs and was doubled off first base on a Brian Roberts pop-out with one down. White Sox starter Andre Rienzo had allowed 10 earned runs over nine innings in his last two starts, but today, he gave up just one run and four hits over 6 2/3 innings to improve to 2-1. Meanwhile, O's starter Bud Norris had the shortest start of his eight as an Oriole. Norris gave up nine hits and four runs over 4 2/3 innings. He had pitched to an ERA of 1.46 over his last two starts. Adam Dunn hit a two-run homer onto Eutaw Street in the fifth for the Sox. It was Dunn's second career Eutaw Street homer, the 75th in Camden Yards history and the ninth this year. Dunn's home run tied the single-season record set in 2012 for the most home runs hit to Eutaw Street. Adam Jones hit a solo homer for the Orioles, his 31st and one shy of his career high from 2012. But the Orioles scored just once, and they have scored four or fewer runs for the sixth straight game and for the 10th time in the last 13 games. The Orioles had two on and one out in the first, got a leadoff double in the sixth and had two runners on in the seventh and eighth, but they didn't score any of those times. The White Sox avoided an 0-10 road trip and ended a nine-game losing streak with the victory, improving to 57-85. The Orioles had nine winning streaks of four games or more last year, but today they failed to record their fourth of the 2013 season as they fall to 76-66 and prepare to welcome the Yankees to town tomorrow night.
