O's game blog: Going for a series win at Rogers Centre

TORONTO - After losing 11-10 in 15 innings Monday, the Orioles beat Toronto 11-4 last night at Rogers Centre. So the third and deciding game of this series is set for tonight.

The Orioles took two of three from Seattle over the weekend, winning a series for the first time since they won two of three versus Kansas City from Aug. 19-21. Tonight, in this series finale, they have a shot to win back-to-back series. That has not happened since the Orioles began this season going 4-2 at Yankee Stadium and Rogers Centre.

The Orioles are 27-50 in road games and 4-16-4 in road series. Two of the four road series wins came here and they can make it three series wins with a victory tonight. They are 8-10 against the Blue Jays this year, but own a 5-3 record at Rogers Centre after going 0-10 in the building last year.

Mancini-Villar-High-Five-Gray-Sidebar.jpgThe Orioles' Trey Mancini recorded a career high in hits last night when he went 5-for-5 with two doubles and three singles. During an 11-game hitting streak, Mancini is batting .471 (24-for-51) with six doubles, four homers and 17 RBIs. In his last five games against Toronto, Mancini is 15-for-24 (.625) with five doubles, one homer and 10 RBIs.

The Orioles have scored 21 runs in this series, going 31-for-101 (.307) with three doubles, a triple and eight homers. They are 9-for-22 (.409) with runners in scoring position.

The Orioles hit three homers last night and they have homered in 18 consecutive games. That is the second-longest active streak in the majors behind 20 in a row by Houston. The O's club record of homering in 20 straight games happened from July 17-Aug. 9, 1998. The O's have hit 31 home runs in this current span, including eight games with two or more homers.

In their past four games versus Toronto dating to last week in Baltimore, the Orioles have scored 10, four, 10 and 11 runs.

On the mound tonight, right-hander Gabriel Ynoa (1-9, 5.65 ERA) gets the start and would love to produce an outing like last night, when Dylan Bundy allowed three hits and two runs over seven frames.

Ynoa recorded a quality start last Thursday versus the Blue Jays when he went 6 1/3 innings and gave up six hits and three runs. In four games (two starts) against the Blue Jays this season, he is 0-2 with a 4.40 ERA and has yielded five homers over 14 1/3.

Over his last six games, three of which were starts, Ynoa has a 3.74 ERA with two walks and nine strikeouts in 21 2/3 innings. The Orioles are 1-11 in his 12 starts. He is 0-8 with a 6.12 ERA and 1.359 WHIP in those games.

Right-hander Jacob Waguespack (4-5, 4.75 ERA) will start for Toronto making his 13th starting appearance. For the year he's allowed 71 hits in 72 innings with a 1.361 WHIP allowing 8.9 hits per nine with 1.5 homers, 3.4 walks and 7.3 strikeouts.

The 25-year-old Waguespack was drafted in round 37 in 2012 by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Over his last five starts, he is 0-4 with a 7.65 ERA allowing six homers in 20 innings with 12 walks to 18 strikeouts. In six home games at Rogers Centre, he is 2-3 with a 5.96 ERA and 1.714 WHIP. He has never faced the Orioles.
