O's game blog: Gonzalez returns as bats look to heat up at the Trop

The search for runs continues tonight for the Orioles. When Delmon Young homered in the ninth last night, they got to four and that has often been a magic number for a win. But this time, the Orioles lost 5-4 to the Rays.

The O's are 26-10 (.722) when they score four or more runs and 9-24 (.273) when they score three runs or less.

A look at how some hitters have fared recently:

* Chris Davis is 1-for-14 his last four games and is batting .158 (12-for-76) with four homers and eight RBIs his past 20 games.

* J.J. Hardy is 6-for-16 with two doubles his last four games, but batting just .200 (7-for-35) his past 10 games.

* Adam Jones is batting .364 (20-for-55) his last 14 games with six homers and 13 RBIs.

* Manny Machado is 7-for-20 (.350) with three doubles over his last five games. He does not have an RBI in his past 10 games.

* Young is 8-for-21 (.381) over eight games with two homers and four RBIs.

Miguel Gonzalez (3-4, 4.17 ERA) faces Erik Bedard (3-4, 3.83 ERA) tonight at Tropicana Field. Gonzalez has pitched to an ERA of 2.81 over his last four starts.

The Orioles are 5-5 in Gonzalez's 10 starts this year and 31-22 when he starts since 2012.

Minor league notes: It has been a tough start to the season for short-season Single-A Aberdeen. The IronBirds went 0-4 at Hudson Valley, losing three times in walkoff fashion, including in 15 innings last night.

The IronBirds pitching staff has the fifth-best ERA in the New York-Penn League at 2.14. Aberdeen leads the league with 47 strikeouts and has only issued 11 walks in 42 innings.

Double-A Bowie (35-34) won 3-2 at Trenton last night. Christian Walker raised his Eastern League-leading RBI total to 61 with two RBIs. Walker is now one of five players in affiliated baseball with 60 RBIs. Walker is on a pace for 126 RBIs, which would be a Bowie franchise record.

Delmarva's Hunter Harvey gets the start tonight for the Northern Division in the South Atlantic League All-Star game in Hickory, N.C. Drew Dosch is expected to start at third base and Mike Yastrzemski in right field. Pitchers Sebastian Vader, Jimmy Yacabonis and Dylan Rheault and first baseman Trey Mancini will also represent Delmarva tonight, as the Shorebirds have seven All-Stars.

Three members of the Single-A Frederick Keys made the Carolina League All-Star team that will play the California League tonight in Wilmington, Del. They are pitchers Branden Kline and Matt Taylor, and outfielder Glynn Davis. Taylor is injured and is not playing tonight.

Harvey with a scoreless first: Harvey put up a zero for his team tonight in the top of the first in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game.

The Shorebirds right-hander gave up a double and walk to start that inning, but then got a groundout, popout and flyout to pitch out of trouble. He threw 14 pitches, eight for strikes, pitching near his home in Hickory, N.C.

Yastrzemski is batting third in right field tonight for his team and Dosch is batting eighth at third base.

Frederick's Davis is batting sixth in center field tonight for the Carolina League in its All-Star Game against the California League.
