O's game blog: Jimenez faces Severino as Orioles go for sweep

Orioles right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez (12-10, 4.10 ERA) takes the mound tonight in Game 2 of this split-admission doubleheader. He is making his 32nd start and faces New York's 21-year-old right-hander Luis Severino (5-3, 2.77 ERA).

He had gone 2-6 with a 6.15 ERA in 11 starts in July and August. In three starts this season versus the Yankees, he is 2-1 with an 8.16 ERA. In 10 career starts, Jimenez is 4-5 with an ERA of 6.23 against New York.

Severino has never faced the Orioles, but he's been very good with the Yankees in his 10 major league starts. He has seven quality starts, and is 2-0 with an ERA of 1.53 his past three starts. He is the youngest pitcher to start in the majors this year.

More notes on the Orioles:

* Game 1 winning pitcher Wei-Yin Chen went 2-1 with a 3.56 ERA and four quality starts in five outings against the Yankees this season. This was Chen's 20th quality start, and the Orioles improved to 19-12 in games in which Chen started this season. He has not surrendered a home run over a career-high tying four straight starts.

* Chris Davis hit his 30th double of the season in the first inning. With 30 doubles and 45 home runs, it marks the second season of his career with at least 30 doubles and at least 40 home runs (also 42 doubles and 53 home runs in 2013). Davis has now recorded at least one RBI in six consecutive games against the Yankees and has collected 15 RBIs in 17 games against New York this season.

* Catcher Matt Wieters extended his hitting streak to seven games in the opener, batting .455/.571/.773 (10-for-22) in that span. He also walked a career-high tying four times today (also, Aug. 23, 2011 at Minnesota).

* Outfielder Nolan Reimold is now batting .298/.376/.517 (45-for-151) with 25 runs scored in 46 career games against the Yankees.

* Over his last three games, Manny Machado is 6-for-13 with four homers, six runs and seven RBIs. He has homered in three straight games for the fist time in his career.
