O's game blog: Minor league May award winners and a look at tonight's game

The Orioles have named Double-A Bowie first baseman Trey Mancini their minor league Player of the Month for May and Single-A Delmarva left-hander Donnie Hart as minor league Pitcher of the Month.

Mancini earned the awad for his play at Single-A Frederick and was promoted to Bowie yesterday. Frederick's Drew Dosch was the April award winner.

In May, Mancini led all Carolina League hitters with a .362 average to go along with five home runs, 19 RBIs and eight doubles. The former Notre Dame standout also paced the league in slugging percentage (.578) and OPS (.981), racking up 14 multi-hit games.

Mancini was the Orioles' eighth-round pick in 2013 and is ranked by Baseball America as the club's No. 30 prospect.

The 24-year-old Hart was the club's 27th-round pick in 2013 out of Texas State University.

Hart has yet to allow a run out of the Shorebirds bullpen through 16 appearances. He is 10-for-10 in save opportunities and is tied for the most saves in the South Atlantic League.

In May, Hart made nine appearances, working 7 2/3 innings, and recorded one win and five saves, allowing just four hits and two walks. The Fulshear, Texas native held hitters to a .148 batting average.

From 2012-14, Tillman made 82 starts and the Orioles won 67 percent of them, going 55-27. They ended last year winning 11 of Tillman's last 12 regular season starts and going 24-10 for the season. This year they are 3-7 in his 10 starts.

Marcum has not faced the Orioles since September 2010, but for what it's worth, he is 3-0 with an ERA of 0.50 in his last three starts against Baltimore.

The Indians are 26-27 and playing much better than when they nine games under .500 on May 18. They have won four of their last five and 14 of the last 20.

The Orioles snapped a five-game losing streak with yesterday's 3-2 win at Houston. They are 24-29 overall and 9-17 on the road.
