O's game blog: O's try to end losing streak in Toronto

TORONTO - The Orioles will turn to right-hander Dylan Bundy (13-9, 4.12 ERA) to try and snap a five-game losing streak tonight. They play the Toronto Blue Jays in the second game of a three-game series.

After going 4-0 with a 2.00 ERA in five August starts, Bundy took the loss last Monday versus New York. Over four innings he gave up two homers, four walks and five runs on 98 pitches. It tied for his shortest start of the year.

During that five-start run in August, Bundy pitched 36 innings and gave up 23 hits with six walks, 45 strikeouts and a .177 average against.

Bundy is pitching on seven days rest tonight. In five starts this season with six or more days of rest, he is 3-1 with a 2.90 ERA. Over 31 innings he has walked two and fanned 32.

In two starts this year versus Toronto, he is 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA. Over 13 innings he has given up nine hits with one walk and 14 strikeouts.

Right-hander Joe Biagini (3-10, 5.29 ERA) will make his 41st outing of the year and his 15th as a starter. Two starts ago he pitched seven scoreless innings at Camden Yards. But he had poor starts both before and after that. In the outing before that game in Baltimore, he allowed five runs over 3 2/3 against Minnesota. In the game after that, his last start last Wednesday, he gave up five runs in 3 1/3 versus Boston.

In his 14 games as a starter only, Biagini is 2-9 with a 5.77 ERA. But in six games (two starts) this year against the Orioles, he is 0-1 with a 1.59 ERA, allowing three runs over 17 innings.

The Orioles have scored just eight runs on a team batting average of .181 during the last five games. They have hit three home runs and hit .250 (4-for-16) with runners in scoring position.

Mark Trumbo ended an 0-for-14 run with a solo homer in the fifth inning Monday night. It was his 23rd home run, his ninth on the road and his third in the last eight games.

Adam Jones had two singles in the game. It was his 45th multi-hit game and that is second on the team. Jonathan Schoop leads the Orioles with 49 such games.

Toronto has won three straight for the first time since Aug. 12-14. The Blue Jays are 5-4 in their last nine games versus the Orioles but just 6-11 on the season. Toronto is 27-38 versus AL East opponents, while the Orioles are 33-27.
