After scoring one run on 10 hits in the first three games of this series, the Orioles host Miami tonight in the final game of the set. They're batting just .130 (10-for-77) and have gone 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position in losing the series' first three games.
They averaged 5.5 runs per game in the four games preceding this series, but it hasn't happened against the Marlins. They got three hits each in the first and second games of the series and four hits in the late game last night.
Lefty Wade LeBlanc (1-0, 4.09 ERA) will make his third start of the year tonight. He's thrown well, allowing five runs and eight hits over 11 innings with just one walk to seven strikeouts. His WHIP is 0.818. Lefty batters have hit .182 and right-handed hitters .200 against him.
LeBlanc has been good early in his two starts. His ERA in innings one through four of those games is 1.13, and opponents are batting just .143 (4-for-28) against him in those innings.
He has made six career appearances (four starts) against Miami, going 1-2 with a 7.56 ERA. In 27 career games in interleague outings, LeBlanc is 4-10 with a 6.57 ERA and 1.562 WHIP.
The not-great news for the Orioles is that they will see another young hurler tonight that shows some real promise. He is 24-year-old right-hander Jordan Yamamoto, a native of Hawaii, who is making his season debut. He went 4-5 with a 4.46 ERA last year but allowed just 6.2 hits per nine innings and recorded a 1.144 WHIP. Lefty batters hit just .152 off him and right-handers batted .223.
Yamamoto, who averages 92 mph on his fastball, pitched well in his 2019 road games. He went 2-2 with a 2.95 ERA and 0.908 WHIP.
The Marlins acquired him on Jan. 25, 2018 from Milwaukee as part of the package of prospects they got in the trade of outfielder Christian Yelich. Baseball America ranked him as Miami's No. 18 prospect at the end of last season.
A look at some O's hitters during this series:
