O's game blog: Today's game and the winning Wednesday on the farm

The Orioles need a win this afternoon to avoid their first three-game sweep at Yankee Stadium since June 1-3, 2010. They have lost a pair of one-run games the last two nights to fall six games out of first place.

After going 13-6 last season versus the Yankees, the Orioles are 5-7 this year, including a 1-5 mark at New York.

Ubaldo Jimenez (7-5, 3.29 ERA) pitches against Masahiro Tanaka (6-3, 3.65 ERA) in the series finale. Jimenez gave up seven runs in 4 2/3 innings at Detroit on Friday after allowing just one run in 20 innings over his previous three starts.

Jimenez has turned around his poor day game stats from last season:

* Jimenez day games 2014: 1-5 with 8.82 ERA, allowing five homers in 32 2/3 innings
* Jimenez day games 2015: 2-0 with 1.41 ERA and one homer allowed over 32 innings

In five starts since June 21, Tanaka is 2-1 with a 5.28 ERA. In seven home starts, he is 4-2 with a 4.32 ERA.

New York is 20-7 at home since May 25 and has won 11 of 15 overall, while the Orioles have lost eight of 11 and 13 of 18 games. The O's are now 19-29 in road games.

Winning Wednesday: All seven Orioles farm teams that played won their games on Wednesday. Seven of the eight Orioles teams - including the two in the Dominican Summer League - are at .500 or better either on the year or during the second half where their leagues play split seasons.

* Triple-A Norfolk beat Pawtucket 6-2 and is a half-game out of first place at 55-41. Christian Walker homered and drove in three. During a sizzling six-game hitting streak, Walker is batting .407 (11-for-27) with three doubles, four homers and 11 RBIs. Rey Navarro is batting . 385 his last 15 games. Norfolk goes for a four-game sweep of this series this afternoon, but trailed 4-0 after the first inning.

* Double-A Bowie beat Reading 6-4 as Drew Dosch and Corban Joseph homered. It was Dosch's first Double-A homer. The 52-44 Baysox are tied for first place.

* Single-A Frederick won 5-1 at Potomac and is 14-13 and in first place in the second half in the Carolina League. The Keys have won eight of 10 games. Chris Lee gave up just one run over six innings, and Chance Sisco went 2-for-4 and is batting .296.

* Single-A Delmarva blanked Charleston 2-0 as Josh Walker, Stefan Crichton and Garrett Cortright combined on a three-hitter. Walker was perfect for the first five innings. Shorebirds starters have not allowed more than three runs since July 10. Delmarva is 15-11 in the second half and three games out of first place.

* Short-season Single-A Aberdeen beat State College 2-1. The IronBirds are 16-15 but actually are in last place with a winning record. They play in a four-team division where the other three teams are tied for first at 18-13, two games up on the Birds.

* The Gulf Coast League Orioles routed Minnesota 12-0 on Wednesday to improve to 13-13.

* The Orioles Dominican Summer League No. 1 team is 24-20 while DSL No. 2 is 16-29 and also won Wednesday, 2-1, over Boston.
