O's playoff hopes officially end with loss to Toronto

The Orioles' losing streak is now six games to match a season high after they lost 3-2 in 10 innings to Toronto tonight to begin the final homestand of the 2013 season. Coupled with Cleveland's comeback win tonight, the loss officially eliminates the Orioles from playoff contention. Mark DeRosa singled in the go-ahead run off Francisco Rodriguez in the 10th. It scored Jose Reyes from third. Moments earlier, on a pickoff play at second, Reyes was ruled safe. Brian Roberts had the ball in time, but Reyes may have gotten his hand to the bag first, avoiding the tag attempt. The game was the 238th extra-inning game of the season. That tops the all-time mark of 237 from 2011, according to STATS. The Orioles, who fall to 81-76 with five games left, first lost six in a row from May 14-20. Chris Tillman gave up just one run on five hits over seven innings and 113 pitches and left with a 2-1 lead. But when Toronto pushed across a run against Kevin Gausman and Brian Matusz in the eighth, Tillman was denied the chance to win his 17th game. When Tillman retired Moises Sierra on a ground ball for the second out of the sixth inning, he reached 200 innings pitched for the year. He is the first Orioles pitcher to do that since Jeremy Guthrie had 208 innings in 2011. Tillman is the fifth Oriole since 2001 to pitch that many innings, joining Sidney Ponson (2004), Rodrigo Lopez (2005), Daniel Cabrera (2007) and Guthrie. It is the 112th season of 200-plus innings in team history. The Orioles moved into a 2-1 lead in the third, when they hit back-to-back homers for the fifth time this season. First, Roberts connected on a 3-2 pitch for No. 7. Moments later, Nate McLouth hit his 12th to break a 1-1 tie. It was the 100th homer of McLouth's career and ended a 16-game drought for him without a homer or RBI. The Orioles scored five runs or less for the 21st consecutive game, which is their longest such streak since 1992.
