The Orioles announced after tonight's game that they have acquired infielder Kelly Johnson and minor league infielder Michael Almanzar from Boston in exchange for minor league infielder Jemile Weeks and Ivan De Jesus.
Johnson, 32, has batted .212/.290/.354 with six home runs and 23 RBI in 87 total games for the Yankees (77 games) and Red Sox (10 games). In nine big league seasons, Johnson is a career .250/.332/.423 hitter with Atlanta (2005, 2007-09), Arizona (2010-11), Toronto (2011-12), Tampa Bay (2013), the Yankees (2014), and Boston (2014). Johnson has played games at first, second, third base and left and right field this season.
Almanzar, 23, was selected by the Orioles in the 2013 Rule 5 Draft and returned to Boston on July 1. He is a career .251/.305/.376 hitter with 55 home runs and 333 RBI in seven minor league seasons.
Weeks, 27, batted .278/.391/.385 in 62 games for Triple-A Norfolk this season.
De Jesus, 27, hit .282/.358/.389 in 113 games for the Tides this season.
