Orioles Add Pitchers David Hernandez, Troy Patton, and Pedro Viola to Roster

The Orioles today announced that they have added three pitchers to their roster, reinstating RHP David Hernandez from the disabled list, recalling LHP Troy Patton from Triple-A Norfolk and recalling LHP Pedro Viola from Double-A Bowie. Hernandez was placed on the 15-day disabled list on August 5 with a left ankle sprain. He is 4-3 with two saves and a 3.29 ERA (27.1IP, 10ER) in 25 appearances out of the bullpen for the Orioles after making eight starts in the rotation to begin the season. Patton went 8-11 with a 4.43 ERA (126.IP, 67ER) in 25 starts for the Tides. He has been in uniform for eight games over two previous stints with the Orioles this year but has not seen game action. Patton last pitched in the majors in 2007 with Houston, posting a 3.55 ERA in three games. Viola was 3-4 with a 3.59 ERA (62.2IP, 25ER) and 64 strikeouts in 23 games for the Baysox. He also appeared in 11 games for Norfolk after being acquired from the Cincinnati Reds organization. Viola pitched in nine games for the Reds in 2009, posting a 5.14 ERA. Hernandez will wear uniform #29, Patton will wear #40 and Viola will wear #47.
