Orioles and Royals lineups (updated)

DJ Stewart remains in the cleanup spot today, serving as the designated hitter for the series finale against the Royals in Kansas City.

Austin Hays is in right field and Ryan McKenna in left, with Trey Mancini the first baseman. No Ryan Mountcastle or Anthony Santander.

Domingo Leyba gets the start at second base and Kelvin Gutierrez is at third. Austin Wynns is catching.

Shortstop Ramón Urías has six multi-hit games in his last nine, going 12-for-34 (.353) after being 5-for-36 (.139) in his first 16 games. He's batting .351 (26-for-74) in his last 23 games since April 30.

Matt Harvey made 18 starts in the first half and went 3-10 with a 7.70 ERA and 1.763 WHIP in 76 innings. His last win came on May 1, followed by nine losing decisions among 12 outings. He hasn't completed the fifth inning in 11 of his last 12 starts.

Harvey made seven appearances (four starts) with the Royals in 2020 and allowed 15 runs and 27 hits, with six home runs, in 11 2/3 innings.

In four career starts against Kansas City, Harvey has gone 2-1 with a 3.57 ERA and 1.279 WHIP in 22 2/3 innings. He's 1-4 with a 5.85 ERA and 1.750 WHIP in six games (five starts) at Kauffman Stadium.

Michael A. Taylor is 7-for-24 against Harvey. Whit Merrifield is 3-for-9.

The Orioles went 7-for-14 with runners in scoring position last night after being 6-for-49 (.122) in their previous six games. They've won five of their last 11 games away from Camden Yards since June 25 after dropping 20 in a row.

Royals right-hander Carlos Hernández is making his first start this season after 12 relief appearances, and his fourth in the majors. He's allowed 12 runs and 21 hits this year in 21 2/3 innings, with 15 walks and 30 strikeouts.

Hernández's longest outing was 4 1/3 innings on May 29 in Minnesota. He hasn't pitched since July 6, when he worked 3 2/3 innings and threw 59 pitches.

Hernández has a 3.38 ERA and 1.406 WHIP in six home games and a 6.55 ERA and 1.909 WHIP in six road games.

The Royals have lost 16 of their last 20 games and 28 of 36.

The Rays are listing left-handers Ryan Yarbrough and Shane McClanahan as starters for the first two games of the series against the Orioles at Tropicana Field. The Orioles are starting Spenser Watkins and John Means, who's coming off the injured list and requiring a corresponding roster move.

Update: Maikel Franco, on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right ankle, is playing catch and taking ground balls and batting practice with the team.

"I think we're going to have him play in a couple games somewhere," said manager Brandon Hyde, "and then hopefully he'll be ready soon."
