Orioles announce opening day plans (and lineup against Rays)

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Orioles defeated the Red Sox 5-4 in their first split-squad game today, and the team bus just arrived at Charlotte Sports Park for the nightcap. While we wait for manager Buck Showalter to arrive and the Orioles to reveal their roster cuts, the club has announced its opening day plans. The Orioles will honor the 13 members of their family who passed away since the 2013 opener during a pre-game video tribute. Special pregame ceremonies will recognize Orioles investor Tom Clancy, public relations director Monica Barlow and former outfielder Paul Blair. Additionally, throughout the 2014 season, the club will wear a name patch on the right jersey sleeve for the Baltimore-born Clancy. The Orioles will wear a 60th anniversary logo patch on the right jersey sleeve for all games above the Clancy patch. Additionally, for all home games, the Orioles will use special 60th anniversary logo baseballs. Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral James A. Winnefeld Jr., will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Admiral Winnefeld is a United States Navy four-star admiral and the second highest-ranking military officer in the U.S. Armed Forces.
