Orioles being no-hit through six innings (O's lose 4-3)

Maybe it should have kept raining. Indians starter Scott Kazmir hasn't allowed a hit in six innings. The only baserunner came on a four-pitch walk to Matt Wieters in the fifth after Kazmir retired the first 13 Orioles. First base umpire Will Little is probably rehearsing his quotes for the pool reporter. If Kazmir completes the no-hitter, immediate attention will fall upon Little, who blew a call in the fourth inning. Manny Machado dove into the bag and was clearly safe. His hand touched the bag before Kazmir, who took the throw from first baseman Nick Swisher, stepped on it. The call looms especially large at the moment. Kazmir has thrown only 63 pitches in six innings. In his last start, Kazmir held the Twins to one run over seven innings. In the previous start, he gave up five in 2 2/3 innings against the Nationals. The Orioles were last no-hit by Boston's Clay Buchholz on Sept. 1, 2007. Jason Hammel has held the Indians to two runs, on Jason Kipnis' homer, over seven innings. He's allowed four hits, walked two, struck out four and supposedly hit a batter. Another bad call. Hammel actually hit Kipnis on the left foot, but plate umpire Ted Barrett didn't call it. Update: And there goes the no-hitter. Machado led off the bottom of the seventh with his 36th double of the season on a sharp grounder past third base. He also should have his 33rd multi-hit game, but why dwell on it? Tonight's attendance: 18,082 Update II: And there goes the shutout. Machado took third base on Kazmir's errant pickoff throw and scored on Chris Davis' sacrifice fly. Davis has 73 RBIs this season. Matt Wieters flied to the left field warning track to end the inning. A few more feet and we're tied. Brian Matusz replaced Hammel, who turned in his seventh quality start in 16 outings this season. Update III: Kazmir walked off the field with the Indians head athletic trainer before throwing a pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning, and the Orioles scored twice off reliever Joe Smith to take a 3-2 lead. J.J. Hardy reached on an infield hit to start the inning. Pinch-hitter Chris Dickerson walked with one out and Alexi Casilla singled to load the bases. Nick Markakis bounced into a 4-6 force to tie the game, and Machado singled off the left field fence to give the Orioles a 3-2 lead. Machado leads the majors with 33 multi-hit games. Jim Johnson is going for his 100th career save. Update IV: The Indians loaded the bases with no outs against Johnson, and Lonnie Chisenhall's fielder's choice grounder tied the game. Drew Stubbs hit into a force at second, and he beat the relay throw as the go-ahead run scored to give Cleveland a 4-3 lead. Johnson had converted 12 straight save chances. He's blown five saves, most recently May 26 in Toronto. Showalter brought in left-hander Troy Patton to face Michael Bourn with two outs in the ninth. Update V: Vinnie Pestano retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth to complete the Indians' 4-3 victory over the Orioles. Johnson had allowed one run in his last 14 appearances. He was appearing in his third straight game.
