"Orioles Classics" #TBT: 26 games of Schoop on base

With the holiday season officially underway, I'm sure you are familiar with the "25 Days of Christmas" series, which shows holiday movies every night for the 25 days leading up to and through Christmas.

Well in similar fashion to kick off the holiday season, we're going to celebrate 26 games of Jonathan Schoop on base for this week's Throwback Thursday moment. The Orioles second baseman had himself a career year in 2017, earning his first All-Star Game selection and being named the Most Valuable Oriole by members of the local media. And we should've seen it coming because he got off to a strong start early in the season when he posted a career-high 26-game on-base streak from April 12-May 12.

Over the 26 games, Schoop slashed .344/.385/.613 with 10 doubles, five home runs, 14 runs, 17 RBIs, four walks and four hit-by-pitches. The streak increased his on-base percentage from .190 to .352 and really got his season rolling.

Thursday, Nov. 30, noon - Not all "Orioles Classics" come under the best circumstances. In 1988, the Birds started the season 1-23, with their only win coming in Chicago against the White Sox. On May 2, they got their first win at home with a 9-4 victory over the Rangers. Seven different Orioles recorded RBIs, Cal Ripken Jr. hit a solo home run and starter Jay Tibbs came within one out of pitching a complete game.

Saturday, Dec. 2, 12:30 a.m. - On April 6, 1992, The Ballpark That Forever Changed Baseball officially opened. Watch the Orioles beat the Indians 2-0 on opening day in the first game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, as Rick Sutcliffe pitched a complete-game shutout.

Monday, Dec. 4, 1 p.m. - The Orioles are known for the home run ball. Don't miss any of the six they hit against the Astros on Aug. 18, 2016. Mark Trumbo, J.J. Hardy (twice), Chris Davis (twice) and Manny Machado all go deep in the O's 13-5 win.

Tuesday, Dec. 5, 7 p.m. - Six homers? Child's play. Watch the Baltimore Power Co. smack seven home runs for a 12-7 victory over the Red Sox on June 2, 2016. Trumbo (twice), Adam Jones (twice), Machado, Pedro Álvarez and Francisco Peña all go yard at Camden Yards.

Wednesday, Dec. 6, 11 a.m. - Trumbo picked up right where he left off in 2016 on opening day this past year. The defending home run champion hit the first opening day walk-off home run in Orioles history on April 3, as the Orioles got some revenge on the Blue Jays with a 3-2 win in 11 innings.
