Tejada, Rosa, Ripken among 14 free agents signed by Orioles

More comfortable announcing a bunch of minor league signings instead of letting them trickle out one at a time, the Orioles released the names of 14 free agents today who are staying in or joining the organization.

The roll call includes infielder Rubén Tejada, who appeared in 41 games this season and came off the 40-man roster after the Orioles activated Ryan Flaherty from the disabled list. Flaherty is a free agent and Tejada could compete for a utility job.

Infielders Luis Sardiñas, Erick Salcedo and Garabez Rosa also re-signed with the Orioles. This is the fourth time for Rosa, who's the all-time leader in games played at Double-A Bowie with 590 and also ranks first in hits (650), doubles (107), RBIs (306) and runs scored (273).

Rosa was named the Eastern League's Most Valuable Player after batting .310/.333/.444 with 24 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs and 91 RBIs in 124 games, but he still hasn't received a promotion to the majors.

Sardiñas batted .319/.348/.419 in 83 games at Triple-A Norfolk after the Orioles claimed him off waivers from the Padres. Salcedo batted .260/.320/.341 in 121 games at Bowie.

Ryan Ripken, the son of Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr., also returns after batting .287/.323/.378 with eight doubles, three home runs and 24 RBIs in 51 games at short-season Single-A Aberdeen.

The Orioles also re-signed catcher Armando Araiza, who appeared in 71 games with Single-A Frederick, five with Norfolk and four with Bowie after coming over in a May 4 trade with the Braves.

Also signed were right-handers Ralston Cash, Jeff Ferrell and Jhan Mariñez, left-handers Josh Edgin, Ryan O'Rourke and Joely Rodriguez, infielder Angelo Mora and catcher Yojhan Quevedo. The Edgin and O'Rourke transactions have been reported here.

Edgin, O'Rourke, Rodriguez, Mariñez and Ferrell bring major league experience.

Edgin is 4-4 with a 3.49 ERA in 177 games with the Mets. O'Rourke is 0-1 with a 4.98 ERA in 54 games with the Twins. Rodriguez is 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA in 38 games with the Phillies. Mariñez is 1-5 with a 3.43 ERA in 95 games with the Marlins, White Sox, Rays, Brewers, Pirates and Rangers - the last three teams employing him in 2017. Ferrell has a 6.53 ERA in 20 games with the Tigers.

Cash pitched for Double-A Tulsa and Arkansas this summer and is 25-23 with a 3.87 ERA in seven minor league seasons. Mora appeared in 107 games with Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley in the Phillies organization and is a career .258/.311/.365 in seven minor league seasons. Quevedo batted .273/.300/.391 in 101 games at Single-A Clinton in the Mariners system and is a career .268/.312/.369 hitter in seven seasons.
