Orioles make theirs a double, tie game (O's win 9-6)

MINNEAPOLIS - The Orioles have battled back from a 6-0 deficit to tie the Minnesota Twins. They're also threatening the club record for most doubles in one game. Seems appropriate when you're playing the Twins. The Orioles have seven doubles tonight, including six over the last two innings. The franchise record is nine, which has happened twice, most recently on Aug. 14, 2009. The Orioles also had seven doubles on July 20, 2012 vs. the Cleveland Indians. They collected eight doubles on June 14, 2012 vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates. Before tonight, they didn't have more than four doubles in one game. Twins reliever Josh Roenicke, son of former Orioles outfielder Gary Roenicke, retired only one batter in the seventh inning, as the Orioles scored three runs to tie the game. Nate McLouth led off with a double and scored on a throwing error by Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe after Manny Machado's bunt single. Machado raced home on Nick Markakis' single, and Markakis scored on Chris Davis' third double of the night. Davis is peppering the out-of-town scoreboard in right-center field. Remember when the Orioles were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position. They're now 7-for-18. Starter Jason Hammel is off the hook. T.J. McFarland is trying to work out of a jam in the bottom of the seventh after Plouffe's leadoff single and a wild pitch. Instant update:Tommy Hunter is replacing McFarland with two outs and Plouffe on second base. Update II: McFarland came up big in relief of Hammel, tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, walked one, struck out one and threw a wild pitch. He threw 39 pitches, 25 for strikes. Hunter also came up big, striking out Aaron Hicks to end the seventh inning. Hunter followed up a 97 mph heater with an 80 mph curveball. The last time the Orioles had four or more doubles in an inning was Aug. 26, 2011 vs. the New York Yankees, when they collected four in the second. The last time the Orioles had four or more extra-base hits in an inning was Aug. 30, 2012 vs. the Chicago White Sox, when they had five in the third - three doubles and two home runs. Update III: The Orioles scored three times in the 10th off Twins reliever Anthony Swarzak to lead 9-6 with closer Jim Johnson warming in the bullpen. Dickerson led off the inning with a single and moved to second on Alexi Casilla's sacrifice bunt. He took third on Nate McLouth's bloop single into center field and scored the go-ahead run on Machado's single. Markakis lifted a sacrifice fly and Jones followed with an RBI single. The last time that the Orioles had seven players with multi-hit games? It was May 10, 2011 vs. the Seattle Mariners. McFarland and Hunter combined for five scoreless innings in relief. Hunter hasn't allowed a run in his last nine appearances and 14 2/3 innings, with three walks and 11 strikeouts. Update IV: Jim Johnson stranded a runner and recorded his 14th save this season. He also set the franchise record with his 35th consecutive converted save opportunity in the regular season, passing Randy Myers on the all-time list. The Orioles win it 9-6 in 10 innings. They improve to 22-14.
