Orioles no-hit through the fifth (McLouth homers, O's win 4-3)

It's another night where the Orioles have ventured into the middle innings without a hit. They have one baserunner against Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia through five innings. Alexi Casilla reached on third baseman Alberto Gonzalez's fielding error with two outs in the third. It's getting a bit tense. Kevin Gausman has kept the Yankees from building on their 3-0 lead. He retired eight of the first nine Yankees, and struck out three of the first four. David Adams singled with one out in the sixth, but Gausman set down the next two batters. He's now retired 10 of 12. He's also quickened the pace of the game, which is greatly appreciated. Gausman's fastball has reached 99 mph. He fanned Chris Stewart on a split-changeup to open the top of the sixth. He's mixing it up. Gausman is pitching for the first time since making his first Triple-A start on June 19. In that game, he allowed seven runs and 10 hits in six innings. Will the Orioles need to make a roster move to bring up a fresh bullpen arm for Saturday night's game? Who works in long reliever if starter Zach Britton exits early? Update: Maybe I really do possess the power to jinx. Nate McLouth led off the bottom of the sixth by lining a single over the head of Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano. Sabathia's no-hit bid has ended. Now, the Orioles will try to take down that shutout. Down on the farm, Buck Britton replaced Brian Roberts at second base in the sixth inning at Triple-A Norfolk. Roberts was supposed to play nine, but it's raining. That may be the reason. Update II: Manny Machado continues to amaze. Alexi Casilla reached on an infield hit after McLouth's single, and both runners scored on Machado's 37th double of the season. Perhaps more impressive was Machado tagging and going to third base on J.J. Hardy's fly ball to center fielder Brett Gardner. That allowed him to score the tying run on Adam Jones' infield hit, a dribbler to the right of the mound. Want to place odds on Showalter mentioning Machado's hustle during his post-game interview, no matter the question? Update III: First, McLouth broke up the no-hitter. Now, he's given the Orioles a 4-3 lead with a home run off Sabathia with two outs in the seventh inning. Unlike the American League Division Series, this ball was ruled fair. Easy call. McLouth took a 93 mph fastball for a ball, then launched an 80 mph slider. Sabathia squatted on the mound in disgust. It took three teammates to lift him back up (kidding). Gausman shut out the Yankees on three hits over 4 1/3 innings, with no walks and four strikeouts. He threw 55 pitches, 36 for strikes. He's in line for his first major league victory. Tommy Hunter is pitching the eighth. And quite well, I might add. Update IV: Hunter stayed in the game and earned his second career save, both this season, in the Orioles' 4-3 victory. Hunter struck out Gardner and Jayson Nix and retired Robinson Cano on a bouncer to Machado after getting two strikes with 98 mph cutters. Jim Johnson never warmed up. He appeared in three of the past four games. Gausman gets his first major league win in a game that McFarland started. McFarland got his first major league win in a game that Gausman started on June 13.
