Orioles re-sign Pearce

The Orioles' roster continues to undergo some major shuffling. Outfielder/first baseman Steve Pearce has agreed to terms with the club, according to an industry source, after electing to become a free agent today. An announcement will be made later tonight. Pearce is the 25th player on the roster and he's eligible to play right away, his signing coming before the Orioles activated third baseman Manny Machado from the disabled list. Machado will come off the disabled list Wednesday if the game isn't postponed, necessitating another roster move. An infielder likely will be optioned to create room. Jemile Weeks, Ryan Flaherty, Jonathan Schoop and Steve Lombardozzi all have options. Left-hander Troy Patton comes off the restricted list on Thursday, so the Orioles will need to find a spot in the bullpen. Pearce was 1-for-7 with the Orioles before they designated him for assignment to make room for left-hander T.J. McFarland and later placed him on unconditional release waivers. An undisclosed team claimed him today, but he elected free agency. The Sun first reported the Pearce signing.
