Orioles sign Ondrusek, Roe designated for assignment

TORONTO - The Orioles today made an addition to their bullpen, signing 31-year-old right-handed pitcher Logan Ondrusek to a major league contract, the team announced. To make room on the 25-man roster, right-hander Chaz Roe was designated for assignment.

Ondrusek-Throws-Reds-Sidebar.jpgOndrusek went 8-3 with a 2.17 ERA in 102 games with the Yakult Swallows of the Japan Central League over the last two seasons, including a 3-1 record and 2.45 ERA in 30 games this season.

He has not been in the majors since going 3-3 with a 5.49 ERA in 40 games for the Cincinnati Reds in 2014. In 281 career major league games, Ondrusek has gone 21-11 with a 3.89 ERA and 214 strikeouts.

Ondrusek will wear No. 51.

"Ondrusek is a proven major league pitcher with good stuff and we believe he can help our major league club now," O's executive vice president Dan Duquette said.

Roe, 29, went 1-0 with a 3.72 ERA and 11 strikeouts in nine games for the Orioles this season. Roe gave up a run and two hits in 1 2/3 innings last night at Minnesota. He went 1-2 with a 2.39 ERA in 33 games this season at Triple-A Norfolk.
