Orioles preparing to recall Mychal Givens

Right-hander Mychal Givens has joined the Orioles in Seattle today for the start of a three-game series and will be added to the bullpen.

The Orioles officially will recall Givens later today from Double-A Bowie and make a corresponding 25-man roster move.

Givens was optioned four days ago and can't return unless he's replacing an injured player. Someone is headed to the disabled list.

If you're worried about closer Zach Britton because he didn't pitch yesterday, it's not him. He's fine.

Could it be Chaz Roe, who's been ineffective in the second half? He's been charged with eight runs and 20 hits over his last 13 2/3 innings.

The Orioles optioned Givens to create a spot for Rule 5 pick Jason Garcia, but he's returning to the bullpen.

Meanwhile, the Orioles are waiting for the results of Tyler Wilson's MRI on his left oblique, but he's expected to go on the seven-day disabled list.

Wilson pulled his oblique muscle yesterday while long-tossing before heading to the bullpen to warm up for his scheduled start at Triple-A Norfolk.

Also, first baseman/outfielder Chris Parmelee has been added to Norfolk's roster today after accepting his outright assignment. He'll be in uniform tonight.
