Post-game notes: O's fall to 1 and 7

Going the wrong way: With their latest loss, 8-6 in 10 innings to Tampa, the Orioles fall to 1-7 with five losses in a row. They are off to the worst start since the 0 and 21 season of 1988. The Orioles are winless, 0 and 5, on this opening homestand which ends this afternoon. The O's allowed a season-high eight runs tonight. They allowed five runs in the 8th and three in the 10th. They have been scored on in the 8th or later of every game this year. That's one poor stat: From the 8th inning on this year, the Orioles have been outscored 21 to 5. The Orioles led 3-0 after seven innings. They are now 1-4 this year when leading after seven innings. Last year the Orioles went 52-5 when leading after seven. The Orioles wore their orange batting practice jerseys for the game for the first time since July 20, 2008. Tampa leads the season series, 4-1 vs. the Orioles but the O's lead the all-time series, 105-104. More on RISP: Tonight, the Orioles went 1 for 6 with runners in scoring positon. They are batting just .159 on the year in those spots, with 10 hits in 63 at bats. Over the last four games, the Orioles are just 2 for 23 with RISP. With RISP and two outs, the Birds are now just 1 for 29 (.034) on the season. The bullpen tonight allowed four runs and five hits in 2 2/3 innings. Starter Brian Matusz took a two-hit shutout into the 8th, but gave up four runs and six hits over 7 1/3. His ERA through two starts is 4.38. Matusz pitched a career best 7 1/3 frames and tied his career strikeout high with eight vs. the Rays. Evan Longoria's two-run single in the 8th tied the game at the time, 3-3. Longoria has 8 RBI on the season, all vs. Baltimore pitching. Carlos Pena's second homer of the year gave Tampa an 8-5 lead in the tenth. He tied one on: Ty Wigginton hit a two-run homer in the 6th and solo shot in the 10th. It was the 10th multi-homer game of his career and first since he hit a pair on September 19, 2009 vs. Boston. The Orioles hit three homers in the game, matching a season-high set in game one vs. Tampa. The three homers tonight matches their total of three over the previous six games. The Orioles matched season highs with six runs and 11 hits. Nolan Reimold went 0 for 4 and has just one hit in his last 11 at bats. Felix Pie went 3 for 5 and is 5 for 8 with a homer over the last two games. The Orioles played error-free ball and have made just one error on the year. They began the night tied with the Indians and Twins for fewest errors in the Majors on the season.
